Our project is intended to substitute traditional Italian language textbooks present in the market which are expensive and heavily grammar-based. The platform goes beyond traditional grammar instruction and takes a holistic approach to language learning, incorporating cultural context and practical language skills. Informed by the latest language acquisition pedagogies, our goal is to provide a learning platform that will be free for the students, student-centered, interactive and collaborative. The platform’s content and structure will align with specific learning outcomes, such as using common Italian expressions, mastering basic morphological forms and syntactic structures, and developing skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. With the use of text to speech technology there will be targeted exercises for listening comprehension and pronunciation.
There are many advantages to develop this project for the Emory community.
First of all the platform will be free of charge for students, usually a language textbook can be up to $200. Second, it will provide a communicative, student-centered and task-based pedagogical approached in a focused site, not easily found in other textbooks, and it will be an innovative and sustainable model of digital publication for academic use.
